I know that a lot of eaters wait until August or September to fire up their canners. I say, bust that baby out! There are already great things to be putting up. I’ve got rhubarb, onions, strawberries and cherries squirreled away. Don’t miss the chance to lock away these summer tastes–they’ll be your genie in a bottle come the first frost.
I’ve been taking my kids out to the u-pic to get the good berries. Let me tell you–kids are good pickers. As long as you make sure they don’t do too much one for me, one for the basket. Unless they can figure out how to weigh their bellies, it really isn’t fair to pig out, in field if you get my drift.
I’ve also put them to work with cherry pitting. This is good, fun, messy work. Just like kids like it. And me, too! Happy canning!
